Gemma nodded, understanding what she meant. Luckily, Gemma’s life had never been very hard. Her parents were adventurous, albeit very strange, but she could imagine the way it would feel if her life hadn’t turned out the way she wanted it to. “Why don’t you just take control?” she asked carefully, not wanting to be blunt.

Gemma shrugged, it wasn’t the best year she’d ever had so far, but it wasn’t bad either. “It’s all right, yours?” Gemma asked in return and smiled at Pippa warmly.

“Just all right?” Pippa asked while lighting a new cigarette. “My year?” Pippa started. “Yeah, what can I say. It’s great!” she said sarcastically as she threw her arms up in the air. 

Gemma shrugged again. “Nothing special or anything.” she explained. When she heard the sarcasm in Pippa’s voice, she raised an eyebrow. “Why the sarcasm?” she asked curiously.
